The Word of God

“Ye shall not add to the word which I command you, and ye shall not take from it…” (Deuteronomy 4:2)

God’s Word was never meant to be summarized into bullet points.
And yet, most believers were only handed a list of ten.

But scripture never draws that line.
The Word of God—the Law, the commandments, the statutes—are one continuous voice.

Names of His Word

  • The Word
  • The Law
  • The Commandments
  • The Statutes
  • The Ordinances
  • The Truth

These are not separate. They are layers of the same covenant.

“Thy law is truth” (Psalms 119:142)

“He who is having my commands, and is keeping them, that one it is who is loving me…” (John 14:21)

More Than the Ten

The Ten Commandments were written by the finger of God on stone (Exodus 31:18)—but that was only the foundation. He gave additional laws to guide His people in every part of life:

  • Worship
  • Justice
  • Relationships
  • Purity
  • Community
  • Food
  • Feasts
  • Health
  • Land
  • Offerings

“My son, keep my words, and hide with thee my commandments… write [them] on the table of thine heart.” (Proverbs 7:1–3)

Context Matters

Jesus quoted these laws.
The Apostles taught them.
And many New Testament teachings don’t make sense without them.

You cannot understand:

  • Jesus’ words about divorce without Deuteronomy
  • The Sermon on the Mount without Exodus
  • The crucifixion timing without Leviticus
  • The meaning of “clean” and “unclean” without Numbers

The New doesn’t erase the Old.
It reveals it.

What About the Laws We Can’t Keep?

Some laws were for the Levites.
Some were for a functioning Temple.
Some were for a different season.

But many still apply today—and many can still be honored in principle, even if we can’t perform them to the letter.

Pray.
Discern.
Obey what you can.
Learn what you can’t.

“Let every false teaching fall away like chaff in the wind.”

Closing Reflection

Don’t reduce His Word.
Don’t fragment His voice.
Don’t call what is holy irrelevant.

The Word of God is not just law—it’s life.
