“Be ye holy, because I am holy.” (Leviticus 11:45)
Most believers have been told that food laws were abolished—just part of the “old system.”
But that’s not what God said.
And that’s not what Jesus lived.
Clean vs. Unclean: Who Defined It?
“Speak unto the children of Israel, saying… These are the animals which ye shall eat…” (Leviticus 11:2)
This wasn’t about Israel’s culture.
It was about God’s holiness.
- Clean: Creatures created to nourish
- Unclean: Creatures created for waste removal, decomposition, or danger
God didn’t make these labels temporary.
He made them part of creation structure.
But Didn’t Jesus Declare All Foods Clean?
No.
That’s a modern translation error.
“Because it doth not enter into his heart, but into the belly… purifying all the meats.” (Mark 7:19, YLT)
Jesus was teaching about hand-washing traditions, not food law.
He never declared pigs or shellfish clean.
He never ate them.
Clean in the New Testament?
Yes. Even after the resurrection, unclean animals were still unclean.
“Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” (Acts 10:14)
Peter didn’t suddenly change his diet.
The vision in Acts 10 was about people—not food.
If food law had changed, Peter wouldn’t have been confused.
The Lord’s Diet Was Clear
Jesus ate:
- Lamb (Passover)
- Fish (clean only)
- Bread, wine, figs, olives, honey, etc.
And He followed every command of YHWH.
“I delight to do Thy will, O my God, and Thy law is within my heart.” (Psalms 40:8)
“I have kept my Father’s commands…” (John 15:10)
This Was Never Just About Food
Clean eating was part of a holy pattern:
“Ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.” (Leviticus 11:45)
It wasn’t about nutrition trends or legalism.
It was about walking in the rhythm of creation, as defined by the Creator.
And it still is.
Closing Reflection
Holiness is wholeness.
God didn’t redefine food—He defined you through it.
You don’t need to fear what others say is outdated.
Walk in what God said was eternal.
Return to clean.
Return to covenant.
Return to Him.
