“This month shall be to you the beginning of months…” (Exodus 12:2)
Most of the world runs on manmade time:
- Roman months
- Midnight day-starts
- Solar-only calculations
But God’s calendar doesn’t begin in January.
And it doesn’t follow the Pope’s clock.
When Does God’s Year Begin?
“This day came ye out, in the month of new corn.” (Exodus 13:4, Brenton LXX)
The biblical year begins in the month of the barley harvest—called Abib.
The name means “ripening ears.”
Once the barley was ripe and the new moon appeared, the year began – after the Vernal (Spring) Equinox.
This method isn’t symbolic. It’s agricultural, lunar, and commanded.
How Do the Months Work?
God’s months are lunar:
- New month = new moon
- Each month begins at the New Moon – which was verified with the sighting of the first visible crescent.
- Each feast day is tied to this rhythm
This is not Jewish tradition—it’s Torah design.
“From one new moon to another… shall all flesh come to worship before Me.” (Isaiah 66:23)
What’s Wrong with Our Current Calendar?
The Gregorian calendar:
- Was established by Pope Gregory XIII
- Detached from agricultural signs
- Removed moon observance
- Was designed to “Christianize” and globalize Rome’s system
It doesn’t honor God’s timing.
It replaces it.
God’s Calendar Is Simple
- Day begins at sunset
- Month begins with new moon
- Year begins when barley is ripe in Israel after the Vernal Equinox, and new moon is sighted
- Feasts are appointed according to these rhythms
No apps required. No algorithms.
Just creation, observation, and obedience.
Jesus Walked This Calendar
He was born on Passover (Nisan 14)
He was crucified on Passover, buried during Unleavened Bread, and rose on Wave Sheaf (Nisan 16)
He poured out the Spirit on Feast of Firstfruits/Weeks (Pentecost)
He fulfilled Jubilee timing in 28 CE
And He’ll return on God’s calendar—not man’s
“He hath made the moon for seasons…” (Psalms 104:19)
Closing Reflection
Realignment begins with the clock.
Once we walk in His time, everything else begins to fall into place.
Let the world chase January.
Let us watch the moon and the barley.
It’s time to return to His appointed seasons.
